This post was written by conference extraordinaire, Michelle Loretta of Sage Wedding Pros. Thanks, Michelle!

These days, you can learn ANYTHING online. I know this. I have fixed a leaky sink with the help of Youtube. I learned how to give myself ‘smoky eyes’ for a Gatsby event with the help of makeup blogs. I also write a blog for wedding professionals that has 1,500 posts worth of free business advice, tools, and tips. You can self-train yourself to do anything. 2015 is amazing, isn’t it?!

So, why do conferences matter?

If you can learn EVERYTHING on the internet, why would you make the investment of time and money to attend a conference, workshop, retreat, seminar, or summit?

  • Conferences matter because human connection matters.
  • Conferences matter because business happens when others know you face to face, in the flesh.
  • Conferences matter because ideas blossom from the periphery experiences of these educational opportunties… at the breaks, and the breakfasts, and the lunches, and the dinners. (and… yes… at the photo booth too).
  • Conferences matter because we need a support system… And, real-life relationships are always going to trump the ones you have online.
  • Conferences matter because we don’t know what we don’t know. (We don’t know what we don’t know to bother googling.)
  • Conferences matter because they are the only way to achieve a true meeting of the minds.
I cannot count the many, many times that I have gotten increased business (revenue!) from attending a conference. I cannot count how many times I have formed an important strategic relationship with someone I met at a conference. I cannot count the times that I have walked away from a workshop with a new perspective on a challenge I was experiencing in my business at the time. I cannot count the times that an ‘online friend’ became a real friend at a conference.

I cannot count these times because they are certainly in the thousands.

So why attend a conference?

Because there are thousands of opportunties… just waiting for you.

Research shows that over half of same-sex couples that are tying the knot strongly consider a vendors’ LGBTQ training and marketing materials when planning to book. So, it’s with great pleasure that I share some exciting news about Halls of Ivy, a new workshop series that aims to teach wedding professionals how to market services towards the LGBTQ community. Halls of Ivy, which is operated by three very seasoned professionals, kicks off on Tuesday, September 29 in Brooklyn, NY.

Interested? Of course you are! To find out more and purchase your tickets, visit their registration page.

PS- The next stop for Hall of Ivy is in New Orleans, so be sure to tune in later, my Big Easy friends!
